The Baltic Innovation Prize 2011 awarded to Cybernetica
The Baltic Innovation Prize 2011 awarded to Cybernetica
Cybernetica was awarded the Baltic Innovation Prize at a gala dinner
organized in the honour of the 20'th anniversary of the Baltic Assembly
during the 30'th meeting of the Baltic Assembly and 17'th meeting of the
Baltic Council on Friday, November 24, 2011. Issued by the Baltic
Assembly and the Baltic Association of Science/Technology Parks and
Innovation Centres (BASTIC), the certificate accompanying a bronze
statuette uses the wording "for outstanding achievement in innovation
and new technologies, as well as strengthening cooperation of the Baltic
states in innovation and technological development". The particular
product that gained the victory over state-of-the-art security systems
from Latvia and renewable energy systems from Lithuania was a VoIP based
voice and data communication solution for professional application in
the marine navigation safety infrastructure.
Within the last two years Cybernetica AS, an Estonian Industrial Member
of IALA ,have successfully
completed deployment of a number of marine communication systems
utilizing digital network-centric Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
based access in several countries in co-operation with global and local
partners. While development of the „VHF for VTS” system for the Vessel
Traffic Services operators was started few years ago, it has been
further refined, brought to maturity for international applications and
implemented to cover the Romanian Black Sea coastal area (VHF and
MF/HF), the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal area (only VHF by this date),
and the Gdansk region in Poland (VHF) within last two years. A project
for the Azerbaijan Caspian Sea GMDSS first phase A2 (MF/HF) as well as
part of AI -VHF in Baku surroundings and Baku VTS VHF communication is
currently in the implementation phase while a deployment in Latvia is
practically installed.
Innovative VoIP-based communication systems developed by Cybernetica are
in use around the clock, day-in-day-out in several different
applications: for port communication, integrated to VTS systems, and
also as GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)
communicationsystems for wider areas. In GMDSS implementation the system
is covering both the AI and A2 areas using the VHF and MF/HF radio
bands. In both cases the DSC functionality is fully supported in VHF and
MF/HF bands.
For the Cybernetica team, this is just one of the many successful
innovative projects that has received a deserved aknowledgement beyond
the circle of users.
