Information Security Research Institute at Cybernetica AS

The Information Security Institute at Cybernetica AS was formed in Spring 2008 on the basis of research activities at Cybernetica's Information Security Department. The main activities of the non-profit institute consist of research and its supporting actions in the field of cryptography and data security.

The information security research in Cybernetica began already in 1997, while Cybernetica supported the Ministry of Law in the drafting of digital signature bill. During this work, a number of theoretical problems surfaced, for which the scientific literature offered no solutions. The first research paper of Cybernetica's scientists offered a practical method for performing time-stamping with minimal trust assumptions. In certain capacity, the research into theoretical and practical time-stamping has continued until the present day. Also, a number of other research topics have been taken up: integrity of databases, secure information flow in programs, analysis of cryptographic protocols, applications of attack trees in the security analysis of system, secure multiparty computation, privacy-preserving data mining.

The international acclaim of the researchers currently working at the Information Security Institute is demonstrated by several indicators --- the number of publications in highly rated venues, participation in the program and organizing committees of international conferences and Summer schools, as well as by Cybernetica's regular participation in international research and development projects funded by the Framework Programs of European Union. Cybernetica's Information Security Institute also participates in the Computer Science Centre of Excellence (EXCS) financed from the Regional Development Funds of EU.
